My Gaming History - Contextual Studies

Games have been my life for as long as I can remember.Since i have grown up in Eastern Europe in a small town, I have never been too exposed to the mainstream gaming. Therefore my first gaming experiences probably started of in my grandma’s attic, where I found old board games that my dad used to play as a kid, many of which he made himself. It wasn’t till I was About 9 that I got into PC gaming. And since back in Czech Republic there was not much Console gaming, PC games is all I knew.

Age of Strategic Exploration:
The first pc game I remember playing is probably the first Doom game, It was the only game that my school had and we didnt have a computer at home so i used to play after school with my friend at the computer lab. Later on the pc invaded my home along with Starcraft and Age of Empires.  My dad was a strategy fan, and I tried and follow his footsteps. I liked these games bette than the brutal Doom. I loved playing strategy games because they gave me a sense of freedom and power. I was controlling these civilizations and expanding my base while fighting of enemies in huge battles. It was like playing with my toy soldiers, but ten times better. It was like the Ultimate Lego set.

Age of Change:
When I was 10 my Family moved to Belgium, It was there that I got exposed to more games. Many of them mainstream. But even though I knew of consoles and the games on them, I still stayed loyal to my pc. I started playing RPG games like Diablo 2 and Heroes of might and magic.  These games gave me a new perspective on gaming, as I was the hero in the game and I was the one who decides whether i die or live.

Age of Sky pirates:
It was than than Crimson Skies came. I remember downloading the demo. And playing it over and over again. The Fictional World in Crimson skies, is what got me so mesmerized. The atmosphere, the Design, The action, The Story. I have never seen anything like it. For some strange reason I loved Those over the top planes, Merchant zeppelins, Sky pirates, Big guns, and Sky battle action. I Blame Crimson skies for being one of the greatest influences on my art. To this day Crimson skies is one of my favorite games to this day.

Age of Variety:
These days I didnt really stay loyal to one game like in the past. I just played anything and everything, Games that my friends played, Random Games i found in stores. Most of them not so well known other quite popular, magazine demos and all sorts i could find. Fable, Gothic 2, Aquanox, Homeworld 2 and Arcanum are one of the few i really enjoyed.  During this time I also started to improve on my drawing, and my ideas became heavily influenced by the games i played.

Modern Age:
Here our house got a brand new high spec Computer, That ment better and newer games that i can play. Will i never forget Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl trilogy and Bioshock. Stalker being the most atmospheric/scary game i have ever played. With rpg shooter freedom, and a fetish for gasmasks,  And Bioshock heavily story based , it wasnt a game it was movie.  Other modern games included, Crysis, Call of duty and Fallout 3. It was around this time that I started to realize what games are. How they are made and how much work goes into them.
And an idea came up that maybe this is what i would like to do in my future career.

Retro age:

It is now that i am in college, and i actually study games in my course. I try to open up to as much gaming genres, I play games to understand them and see them as a form of art. Being a student I also dont have the luxury of a High spec home computer, Therefore I bought myself a nintendo DS. My plan with this is to go back and catch up on all the console gaming i missed. Game boy advance games mostly. These game are like a whole new realm into the past. And i am loving it. one of my favorites so far is the Castlevania series.

To be Continued/Finished
